DC ABPsi | The Black Mental Health & Healing Resource Hub!

Rooted in African Wisdom. Centered on Black Wellness. Committed to Collective Healing.

At DC ABPsi, we believe that healing is both a personal journey and a collective responsibility. Grounded in the principles of African-centered psychology, our work honors the interconnectedness of mind, body, spirit, culture, community, and ancestral wisdom.

This digital resource hub serves as a living archive of knowledge, conversations, and community-centered healing practices dedicated to advancing the psychological liberation, wellness, and empowerment of Black people.

Here, you'll find recordings of past DC ABPsi educational programs, community conversations, expert panels, professional development sessions, and culturally grounded discussions exploring the many dimensions of Black mental health.

Our goal is simple: To make culturally relevant psychological knowledge accessible, actionable, and rooted in the lived experiences of our communities.

Explore Our Conversations

🎥 Watch. Learn. Reflect. Share.

Whether you're a mental health professional, student, educator, community advocate, or someone seeking a deeper understanding of Black psychological wellness, we invite you to explore these resources.

Our hope is that these conversations will inspire reflection, encourage dialogue, strengthen community connections, and provide practical knowledge that supports individual and collective well-being.

Because our stories matter. Our knowledge matters. Our healing matters.

Healing Is Our Collective Responsibility

We recognize that Black mental health cannot be separated from the historical, cultural, social, and systemic realities that shape our experiences.

Through this resource hub, DC ABPsi seeks to preserve and amplify the voices of Black psychologists, scholars, healers, elders, and community members who are advancing the field of African-centered psychology.

We invite you to revisit these conversations, share resources with your networks, and continue the work of building healthier, more connected communities.

We are because we belong. We heal because we are connected.

WE ARE BECAUSE WE BELONG

Reflecting on Our Community Conversation About Black Life, Suicide Prevention & Radical Hope featuring Dr. Mark Bolden, Mr. Colin Byrd. Dr. Lakira Smith, and Ms. Valerie Taylor

Some conversations are important.

Others are necessary for our collective healing.

Our recent community conversation, "We Are Because We Belong," was both.

Hosted at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library, this gathering created space for a deeply meaningful, honest, and needed discussion about Black life, suicide prevention, belonging, and radical hope.

The conversation reminded us that suicide prevention within Black communities cannot be separated from culture, connection, identity, community responsibility, and the conditions that shape our collective well-being.
